From nothing to amazing

Sewing is not my thing, although I’m not far from enjoining it by someone very special to me. Mom is a high end seamstress, she learned since tender age.   She was taught by only the best. She made all my wedding brademaids dresses, she also created my lil sister wedding gown, just to mention how awesome mom is. She has her own professional sewing machines, her sanctuary to create is a special room in the basement of her house where she lets loose her creativity. I usually do not request much from her but once in a while I want to gift someone with a special item that could be one of a king and no one else will have it. This year, my daughters and I wanted to create a beautiful table arrangement for a friend that is preparing to move out of her parents house to continued her journey to adulthood.  -  So I asked mom to make me a runner, some napkins and napkins holder - bought the material on a trip to our local fabric store and then mom did her wonders!  We took some...

Outside the comfort zone

Back to Blogger series Pink is not really my favorite cup of tea. Since my girls were little I never used pink to dress them, most likely they knew where my heart was and all three have favorite colors that are nothing like pink. Keke is a big fan of all shades of blue. PrincessT is fan of all purple shades, far away from pink. PrincessB is also a big fan of purple but she also is all about reds. So it was not an issue for me since the girls preferences were far away from this color. With the years and all the presents I have knitted, my choice for lil girls were always purples, oranges, reds, turquoises and terracottas.  Pink was always out of the question, never in my mind thought of knitting something in pink. A while back, a pattern writer asked me to test a pattern and two things happened, 1.- I had limited yarn supply and did not want to buy more until I finished what I had, unless it is for a very special project. 2.- I had to wear something pink to remember the fi...

Destash

Image
Have you ever been in a place where you have saved too much yarn scraps from other projects? I sure have. I have a blanket going on with just scraps from other projects but I still have a lot that needs to be used if not tossed away.  So my family does not feel overwhelmed with the clutter. So going on my Instagram feed I saw a few instagramers knitting a blanket with bits and pieces Click on image to see the profile This gave me an idea, why not a colorful shawl? Here more ways to DeStash - Pinterest My friend Carmen Tye is the queen of destashing, please visit her to see her ideas. LIMPIANDO RETAZOS...

A is for apple

Fall comes abruptly here in Toronto every year.   The weather always changes without warning and many would think that after more than 30 years here I will be ready right after September but then again it’s I and even though I absolutely love the fall and every year I say next year I will be more ready, that time never comes. Always in the middle of shorts and t-shirts comes that breeze that tells me “Mar is time to take the fall/winter clothes collection”  One of our fav fall activities is apple and pumpkin picking, it is also the opportunity to take fall pictures as a family and use them for Christmas cards.  This year was not the exception. We try to choose a farm that we have not visited before so we can meet new people and places.  After picking, for sure comes apple & pumpkin pies.  Here is our recipe for apple pie - This year we did bite size apple pies.  Tanya, my second born, made them in a mini cupcake tray. RECIPE... Filling 4...

OMG, that autocorrect

Image
I have a whatsapp group of knitter friends that we communicate for many years now.  Some of us still knit but others stopped a while back.   One thing we have in common is that we support each other each and every day with regular daily life outside the screen. They are my biggest cheerleaders and we laugh at anything and everything. One of the many things that we laugh about all the time is the autocorrect on our phones that correct us the most funnies things when we write in a hurry.  Funny things like trying to write knitting and it writes knotting or sky to sly, food to fools etc. So on my part I enjoy every bit of the fun and do let my autocorrect correct me for other words,  sometimes more likely horror embarrassment. I still laugh with no considerations to anyone around me when I talk to them.  My kids often wonder why my friends are so funny, I actually do not explain that is not totally them but the autocorrect that makes our days much mor...

Grace

Image
                    • Grace :    the free and unmerited favor of God, as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the   bestowal of blessings. Dignify, Honor, Favor. Grace is such a beautiful concept, it has such a strong meaning, that I absolutely love but where I totally fail. When my sister was pregnant with my niece, she knew her name was going to be Gabriela but she was in need of a middle name.  (all her kids have two middles names, one for the day of the week they were born in  Swahili and a regular middle name that means something special) So we all started looking for middle names before the baby was born.  To my delight she chose my suggestion, Grace and it rhymes beautifully - Gabriela Grace.  I have always find the meaning of Grace so beautiful, I was giving Salvation by Grace only, I did not deserve it and trust me, I know I did not deserve it.  ( yes I'm a Christian, if you a...

a Bowl of Chili

Image
My little one loves a bowl of Chili accompanied by two slices of fresh bread. So when the weather changes to a more colder one, this becomes a family favorite. Here is my quick easy recipe that might not be as it is made in the south or somewhere else, but it is what works for a busy mom that many times has no time to cook something too elaborate. I usually have all the veggies cut for the week in the fridge to make my cooking time easier. Feel free to toss everything in a slow cooker and let it sit for 6 hrs if you prefer. INGREDIENTS • 1/2 lbs of ground beef (sometimes I buy ground turkey) • 1 cup each of minced/cube cut                                  - Onions                                  - Peppers Red/yellow/green                         ...
