Post Exilic

It's been a very long time my dears, I feel like it has been a decade, but I know it has only been over a year since I step foot in this place, my safe place, my happy place! This past year has been hectic, busy to the max, I was the adult in charge of having three kids at home for schooling.  My sister needed help and I had to, I'm a big sucker for those kids, they are the cutest thing ever and as I always repeat, I like the bad life!! 🙊 This hard season was a time to reflect, review and evaluate priorities.  I have come to termns that I love to Blog, even though I do not do it often.

Christmas is here

Image
I love Christmas.  It is part of my DNA, because of Christmas I am who I am. So many ways to celebrate, every single family that looks after this holiday has their own tradition, many involves presents and with that, let me give you a nice customized way of making your own personalized present to your love ones. At home we have a Silhouette Cameo for about 4 yeas now,  it is not new, we want to buy the Cricut Maker, that one is a beast, but for now we use what we have.  This machine cuts anything you want on paper, vinyl, light plastic and also writes anything you send from a computer with the right tools, which at home we have.  With the Silhouette we usually decorate the dinning wall for Thanksgiving/Fall & Christmas But you can also create all kinds of things, like a customized ornament.   This is my family ornament of last year that we brought back to our Christmas tree this year, They are not that hard to make, in m...

Hat, a Fall/Winter affair

Image
I want to apologize for the late post, supposedly I left it ready to load this morning, early but something went wrong and did not post - Quiero Disculparme por lo tarde de esta entrada, la programe para que saliera en la mañana, pero algo sucedio y no salio. x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x This post is part of the Back to Blogger incentive.  This month with the letter  H I love hats, hats are my second favorite knitted accessory for Fall and specially for Winter.  They are so versatile and also you can make them with very little material.  Either in yarn or thread. I started one that I love, because you can use bits of left over and get an amazing combination. Sunset Hat on Ravelry I have not finished mine but wanted to share cause I'm knitting it with this palette that lately yarn clubs sell by bits. Updated - Actualizado  Finished hat - Gorro terminado This was a present for my nephew’s bday - Fue un regalo para mi sobrino en su cumpleaños  I also wanted...

Gelatine with evaporated milk - Bavoroise

Image
One of the dessert that never fail in a birthday party, specially among kids is a dessert with gelatine. In Chile we have a very well known one called Bavoroise. Fluffy, light and very tasty. RECIPE  1 can of evaporated milk chilled 2 cups of gelatine, prepared as package instructions ( I usually make it with half of the water requested) 1 cup of heavy cream/whipped cream (optional) 1 cup of strawberries or any berry available (optional) Whip the evaporated cold milk with a kitchenaid mixer until it has double the amount, becoming very fluffy and thick.   Add whipped cream if you are adding this ingredient.   Once mixed and all becomes whipped and fluffier, add prepared gelatine, mixing well with a mixer.    With a wooden spoon or a spatula mix in the berries if you are adding this ingredients and set it in individual glass molds.   Let it rest in the fridge for al least 4 hrs but overnight is better. Garnish with berries or even min...

FFFFFFFFFingerless Mitts

Image
I always think that if I commit to something, I really need do my best to comply.  I know we do have life outside of this cyber world but I usually encourage my kids to follow true on their word. But boy, this month was hard for me on our back to blogger challenge, because I had nothing, nada, niet, rien...  I wanted to change things a bit, come out of my comfort zone and try something different, but not, here I am with my knitting. So without further ado, My fingerless mittens This was made with 49 stitches, 24 stitches on each side, one for the thumb with increases before and after that stitch, until desire size.

Elephant - our E of the month

Image
Did you know that...  There are three different species of elephant – the African Savannah elephant, the African Forest elephant and the Asian elephant. Elephants are known for their large ears, tusks made of ivory and their trunks – which are actually a fusion of their nose and upper lip. But my Elephant  came from a pattern in Etsy named ELA . I found her casually, I was looking for something to write about for July in our BacktoBlogger post and through my list of possibilities I found Elephant and started my search for something with them but after a whole day, I got nothing. So since the internet works with algorithms, my phone had the trace about elephants and my Instagram sent me a nice knitted picture of the above pattern and the rest is history. I modified the dress a bit to have a little of lace, see below diagram in case you want to copy my idea. I knitted mine in 100% cotton, "peaches & cream", used a left over thread from another project that I will...

D for designer

Image
I was really nervous about this month's entry, not because there is nothing to talk about but because I personally did not have anything in mind until I was in front of a pattern designer while visiting Chile. While in Chile I used my personal instagram to post pictures of my travels, a designer that I have worked with, contacted me when she figured out we were in the same continent and country.  She wanted to meet me in person as many of us in this circle have only met virtually.

C - Chi Chi Chi Le Le Le

Viva Chile - (Hurray for Chile) This is the very well known scream and hurray we Chileans use to celebrate something important. It has been great, seen my grandma that is close to 90 years old.  Enjoying her recipes that she has dictated to me step by step.  Her mind is in perfect condition but her body is showing all signs of age so I wanted to see her before my Lord takes her home with Him.  It has been very rewarding. Valparaíso is a beautiful city, so colonial.  Unfortunately my people has not care for it and its beauty.  Very forgotten and neglected. Viña on the other hand has move forward with progress and economic, everything is fast pase. I’m in awe of all the immigrants that are here.  People from all backgrounds, very diverse.  So now Chile is becoming a multicultural place, I just hope my fellow Chilean were more tolerant and compassionate tow...

Image
Melina came 3 weeks ahead of her self.  She came full swing, unexpectedly.  But we did her baby shower just the weekend before. Here is what we knitted and crocheted for her.  She is so loved and waited for. This blanket was done in crochet in Caron Cake for hats, mix of Cotton and viscose with a cotton lining done by mom, to make it soft to the touch | Esta frazada fue tejida a crochet en una mescla de Algodon y viscosa de la marca Caron Cake, con tela al reverso en algodón para que sea suave al tocar...

A lil bit of learning

Image
DYI theme Makeup was never my strength but lately I watch lots of tutorials and this one absolutely made it super easy to follow. My recommendation in makeup brands is always those either vegan or not animal tested.  A bit difficult to say which brand as every country has its own accessibility. **** One of my other fav DIY is growing plants from seeds, how cool is this avocado tree? Not the winter blues

Image
#Colours #Colores Researchers say that Feb is the month where the winter blues pay the yearly visit to make sure you remember that is very cold outside (North hemisphere) and that by now if you bought with a credit card your Christmas presents will be seeing the reality of your financial miss behave back in December. But not this gal!! I usually start buying my Christmas presents in May/June by cash or order online with the money upfront, so in February I have nothing to be regretting myself about.  Even when it comes to the weather I'm very content with the snow and the beautiful scenery. Colors are a nice way to brighten up the hues of winter for those that do not enjoy the grays, blues and dark.  You can change the pillows of the couch or a bright sheet on your bed.  You can always knit or crochet a nice blanket in a beautiful spring color to bring a smile to your face.

Vintage knitting

Image
Vintage knitting is always something we knitters enjoy.  Whether we buy patterns or see a piece on a television show and we want to copy it, we do our best to try to make it happen. A few years back I bought quite a few patterns with a vintage flair.  Most of them from Alana Dakos from Never not knitting .   I have all her e-books and also a few of her individual patterns.   Among those I have a magazine published in 2012 that she contributed - a vintage collection - Jane Austen Knits I personally love this edition, it is fill with knitting goodness that I don’t have time to knit but that I keep because I never loose hope of knitting one day.   There is a pattern that is called Pleated Neck Scarf that now you can also find in ravelry as an individual pattern that I hope to knit eventually.  Let’s hope for this year!! And now talking about vintage, how about all the patterns showed in the Outlander serie?! - have you seen them?!  I ca...

From nothing to amazing

Image
Sewing is not my thing, although I’m not far from enjoining it by someone very special to me. Mom is a high end seamstress, she learned since tender age.   She was taught by only the best. She made all my wedding brademaids dresses, she also created my lil sister wedding gown, just to mention how awesome mom is. She has her own professional sewing machines, her sanctuary to create is a special room in the basement of her house where she lets loose her creativity. I usually do not request much from her but once in a while I want to gift someone with a special item that could be one of a king and no one else will have it. This year, my daughters and I wanted to create a beautiful table arrangement for a friend that is preparing to move out of her parents house to continued her journey to adulthood.  -  So I asked mom to make me a runner, some napkins and napkins holder - bought the material on a trip to our local fabric store and then mom did her wonders!  We took some...

Outside the comfort zone

Image
Back to Blogger series Pink is not really my favorite cup of tea. Since my girls were little I never used pink to dress them, most likely they knew where my heart was and all three have favorite colors that are nothing like pink. Keke is a big fan of all shades of blue. PrincessT is fan of all purple shades, far away from pink. PrincessB is also a big fan of purple but she also is all about reds. So it was not an issue for me since the girls preferences were far away from this color. With the years and all the presents I have knitted, my choice for lil girls were always purples, oranges, reds, turquoises and terracottas.  Pink was always out of the question, never in my mind thought of knitting something in pink. A while back, a pattern writer asked me to test a pattern and two things happened, 1.- I had limited yarn supply and did not want to buy more until I finished what I had, unless it is for a very special project. 2.- I had to wear something pink to remember the fi...
