A lil bit of learning

DYI theme Makeup was never my strength but lately I watch lots of tutorials and this one absolutely made it super easy to follow. My recommendation in makeup brands is always those either vegan or not animal tested.  A bit difficult to say which brand as every country has its own accessibility. **** One of my other fav DIY is growing plants from seeds, how cool is this avocado tree? Have you ever been in a place where you have saved too much yarn scraps from other projects? I sure have. I have a blanket going on with just scraps from other projects but I still have a lot that needs to be used if not tossed away.  So my family does not feel overwhelmed with the clutter. So going on my Instagram feed I saw a few instagramers knitting a blanket with bits and pieces Click on image to see the profile This gave me an idea, why not a colorful shawl? Here more ways to DeStash - Pinterest My friend Carmen Tye is the queen of destashing, please visit her to see her ideas. LIMPIANDO RETAZOS...

A is for apple

Image
Fall comes abruptly here in Toronto every year.   The weather always changes without warning and many would think that after more than 30 years here I will be ready right after September but then again it’s I and even though I absolutely love the fall and every year I say next year I will be more ready, that time never comes. Always in the middle of shorts and t-shirts comes that breeze that tells me “Mar is time to take the fall/winter clothes collection”  One of our fav fall activities is apple and pumpkin picking, it is also the opportunity to take fall pictures as a family and use them for Christmas cards.  This year was not the exception. We try to choose a farm that we have not visited before so we can meet new people and places.  After picking, for sure comes apple & pumpkin pies.  Here is our recipe for apple pie - This year we did bite size apple pies.  Tanya, my second born, made them in a mini cupcake tray. Grace

Image
                    • Grace :    the free and unmerited favor of God, as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the   bestowal of blessings. Dignify, Honor, Favor. Grace is such a beautiful concept, it has such a strong meaning, that I absolutely love but where I totally fail. When my sister was pregnant with my niece, she knew her name was going to be Gabriela but she was in need of a middle name.  (all her kids have two middles names, one for the day of the week they were born in  Swahili and a regular middle name that means something special) So we all started looking for middle names before the baby was born.  To my delight she chose my suggestion, Grace and it rhymes beautifully - Gabriela Grace.  I have always find the meaning of Grace so beautiful, I was giving Salvation by Grace only, I did not deserve it and trust me, I know I did not deserve it.  ( yes I'm a Christian, if you a...

a Bowl of Chili

Image
My little one loves a bowl of Chili accompanied by two slices of fresh bread. So when the weather changes to a more colder one, this becomes a family favorite. Here is my quick easy recipe that might not be as it is made in the south or somewhere else, but it is what works for a busy mom that many times has no time to cook something too elaborate. I usually have all the veggies cut for the week in the fridge to make my cooking time easier. Feel free to toss everything in a slow cooker and let it sit for 6 hrs if you prefer. INGREDIENTS • 1/2 lbs of ground beef (sometimes I buy ground turkey) • 1 cup each of minced/cube cut                                  - Onions                                  - Peppers Red/yellow/green                         ...

Fibers and caring

Image
Some people only knit or crochet with high end fibers. Which is amazing if you have the budget for it. I usually buy good expensive yarns if the project is for someone super special or if the client is willing to pay for the material plus the labour, which becomes pretty expensive as any project takes time and that equals to money/hr of labour. My all time favorite place to buy is Knit picks as it always have sales on good quality yarn. Now I have preference when it comes to non expensive fibers, those bought either at Michael’s or Walmart here in Canada, in cotton or bamboo base yarns.  Specially if they are for lil ones, as their skin is very delicate. Other personal fav is thread that family sends from Chile.  Most af them are cotton base and have a bit of viscose for flexibility.  Hyperallergenic and amazing to knit for babies and also for our all time favourite, shawls!  I always recomend to read the labels for caring, I usually wash my knits in ...
