The empowered Frida

Image
Frida Kahlo was just fierce! She wore clothes that were at the time for men Refused to shave/wax her hair as the women of her time. She wore lots of colours, specially on her head. She was always exposing women's every day issues, like miscarriages, menstruation, sickness etc She was bold for the era.. I decided to include myself on this month Posting Challenge number 115, hosted by El Ovillo de Eli Anyone participating needed to post about something with Frida Kahlo and since what I do best is knitting and crocheting, I decided to create a head band out of flowers.   I created the knitted band that was going to be the base for the flowers in regular knit/purl stitch, with a piece of elastic to make it easier to put it on. This was a great idea for me, since I have lots of yarn leftover from other projects that I always keep around in case something needs just bits of material. Elephant - our E of the month

Image
Did you know that...  There are three different species of elephant – the African Savannah elephant, the African Forest elephant and the Asian elephant. Elephants are known for their large ears, tusks made of ivory and their trunks – which are actually a fusion of their nose and upper lip. But my Elephant  came from a pattern in Etsy named ELA . I found her casually, I was looking for something to write about for July in our BacktoBlogger post and through my list of possibilities I found Elephant and started my search for something with them but after a whole day, I got nothing. So since the internet works with algorithms, my phone had the trace about elephants and my Instagram sent me a nice knitted picture of the above pattern and the rest is history. I modified the dress a bit to have a little of lace, see below diagram in case you want to copy my idea. I knitted mine in 100% cotton, "peaches & cream", used a left over thread from another project that I will...

Patterns

Image
I'm a knitter that strongly dislike seams on my knits, meaning any knits that are made by parts and needs to be put together by stitching parts together.  I rather knit everything at once. So, many times I alter the pattern to fix my personal choice. Mostly I start my projects top down if it is a sweater or top. What is your personal preference? Here are two projects knitted from top to bottom, Aqui dos tejidos de arriba hacia abajo, a blue dress in thin cotton thread that I bought while travelling in Chile un vestido azul en algodón delgado que compre mientras visitaba Chile I followed thi...

D for designer

Image
I was really nervous about this month's entry, not because there is nothing to talk about but because I personally did not have anything in mind until I was in front of a pattern designer while visiting Chile. While in Chile I used my personal instagram to post pictures of my travels, a designer that I have worked with, contacted me when she figured out we were in the same continent and country.  She wanted to meet me in person as many of us in this circle have only met virtually.

Viva Chile - (Hurray for Chile) This is the very well known scream and hurray we Chileans use to celebrate something important. | Este es el muy conocido grito y hurra que usamos los chilenos para celebrar algo importante. It has been great, seen my grandma that is close to 90 years old.  Enjoying her recipes that she has dictated to me step by step.  Her mind is in perfect condition but her body is showing all signs of age so I wanted to see her before my Lord takes her home with Him.  It has been very rewarding. Valparaíso is a beautiful city, so colonial.  Unfortunately my people has not care for it and its beauty.  Very forgotten and neglected. Viña on the other hand has move forward with progress and economic, everything is fast pase. I’m in awe of all the immigrants that are here.  People from all backgrounds, very diverse.  So now Chile is becoming a multicultural place, I just hope my fellow Chilean were more tolerant and compassionate tow...

B is for Baby Knits

Image
Melina came 3 weeks ahead of her self.  She came full swing, unexpectedly.  But we did her baby shower just the weekend before. Here is what we knitted and crocheted for her.  She is so loved and waited for. This blanket was done in crochet in Caron Cake for hats, mix of Cotton and viscose with a cotton lining done by mom, to make it soft to the touch | Esta frazada fue tejida a crochet en una mescla de Algodon y viscosa de la marca Caron Cake, con tela al reverso en algodón para que sea suave al tocar...

Staying home Monday

Image
I usually proclaim Mondays to be the day where we discover everything the goblins do through the weekend at the office when no one is looking.  It is the only explanation that makes sense since every Friday office people leave their desks clean. But today, home is the best place to be! To recharge, to place order in my mind and to organize what is coming and how to tackle the spring cleaning that we absolutely need. So far I have cleaned and organized the desk and all of its pen goodness, to the point that my laptop can be set on top to write this post.  Neat right? I have started a sweater for my sister's benjamin (meaning the last born) And finaly  have also cooked.  Chili is a comfy food that makes us happy at home - you can find the recipe HERE Quedandome en Casa un Lunes Por lo general, proclamo que los lunes es el día en que descubrimos todo lo que hacen los duendes durante el fin de semana en la oficina cuando nadie está mirando. E...
